NEW YORK — A group of white men has released a new video saying they do not support hate groups.
The group called ‘Stand Up for Racism,’ released on Wednesday, says they are protesting white supremacy and racism in America.
“I’m just a white man.
And we have been lied to.
We have been betrayed.
And I’m not going to be the only one who feels that way,” one of the men says.”
The truth is that racism is not a hate crime,” the group said in a statement.”
It’s not a crime because we’re a minority, it’s a crime when we’re treated like a third class citizen by our white neighbors, when we are denied our basic civil rights,” the statement continued.
The men in the video are not white supremacists, but they are concerned about a lack of education about racism in the United States.
“What you’re seeing in this country is a very large group of people, mostly young white men, who have not been exposed to the realities of racism in this land, and who are afraid to speak up for themselves or their families,” said Michelle Purdy, the group’s founder.
“These young men are saying that this country doesn’t treat them well.
They’re afraid to be themselves,” she added.
The video was produced by the National Association of Black Women, and has been viewed nearly 2 million times.
